What money you ask? The money awarded by the Pakistani imam to whomever kills the cartoonist(s). Did he specify if the killer must be a muslim or not? Just a passing thought that I should entertain another time. I thought of how many school books, pens and pencils the money can buy. I thought of how many, dresses, pants, shirts, socks and shoes the very needy children of Pakistan could buy. I even compared the prices of Chineese product versus indian and Korean. When my head started to hurt I decided to abondon my overly noble mental work and try to focus on the immediate need of those rioters who have been deeply offended by the cartoon. I decided to see how many of them I can send to the hammam for a much needed washing. How many I can send to barbers for shaving. I even thought of including a new chlaka to replace the ones they have lost during the rioting. If you are a Tunisian you will very well know that chlakas (slippers) don't survive demonstrating on unpaved roads. So, $1,000,000 = 59690002.44 PKR. If it cost twenty Ruppees per person for the whole package (hammam, barber and chlaka), I would accomodate 2,984,500 persons. Wow! a lot of happy people. Don't they say that you can see noor (light) on the faces of true believers. I believe my package will help reflect the inner noor of the rioters. Furthermore, by spending the one million dollars this way I, also, revives two businesses that have been in decline since the fundamentalists have gotten stronger and more intimidating.
Humbly, humming my favorite song "laou kan be eddaya amr elkoun."
